Peaceful Souls services Marion County and surrounding counties in Indiana and specializes in helping owners recover lost dogs by educating on proper recovery tactics and containing via various methods including humane traps, if needed. Cameras allow us to monitor traps remotely and removes the stress for a frightened dog since no humans are visible. When cameras are in use, they are monitored 24/7.
Our volunteers have many years of experience and follow proper protocol to maintain a safe, legal and effective containment environment while keeping the dogs as calm as possible. Weather conditions are considered when utilizing traps. As a general rule, we do not trap in excessive heat or cold unless in an emergency situation. We do not loan out containment equipment to the public. We are involved in every step of the recovery effort. Every lost dog situation is unique and assessed on an individual basis. We are flexible and adjust our recovery plan as needed.
We also specialize in tracking and containing stray dogs and trying to establish ownership. The cases we handle come from the public (direct communication or social media postings) and referrals from other local rescues/shelters. We partner with Indianapolis Animal Care Services and shelters in surrounding counties. Indianapolis Animal Control Officers reach out to us directly for containment help, if needed. While we do not loan out containment equipment to the public, we do work with citizens to provide education on proper protocol related to feeding stations and how they can help us with containment strategies. If no owners are found for a contained stray, we currently partner with local animal shelters who provide appropriate medical care, hold for the county regulated amount of time for owners to claim and then place up for foster, adoption or rescue if non-owned.
There are many other animal welfare organizations that offer various services and resources. To the best of our ability, Peaceful Souls will try to help you navigate resources for your unique situation and if we cannot help directly, we will refer you to another organization that can. This may mean that your situation is simply outside of our current scope or that another organization is better equipped to help more quickly.
